my first 4th of july

i've heard aboutthe 4th of july. but i didn't know it is a big celebration to the americans. not until yesterday when my peace corp volunteer friends (pcv) invited me to join the them to celebrate their 4th of july at beach. i was excited coz they will just prepare american food. and nothing else. american food but food that they usually prepare during4th of july. i guess i'm lucky enough to met these people, and learned their culture. indeed, it's nice to have friends from other countries, coz we get to practice their own culture in our country.

we went to the beacharound 11 am. and everybody was arriving. most of my friends are not into picture taking, so im so careful so they won't be offended. but then all the candid and stolen shots went well. the food we had was sausage, salsa, vege salad, fresh fruit salad, potato salad, chips, peanuts and bbq. then we had beer, the bar (strawberry and apple flavor), and some soda. i had a first taste of coolaid + the bar + sprite when emma and cassie asked me to drink it.

leah bought a toy gun. . jaci and alyssa filled it up with the bar, and starting asking everyone to open their mouth and they will shoot it. . everyone... except me. but okay, not to be too kill joy for the fun, i end up agreeing to do it. and i did enjoyed it! but i still like the coolaid though :) everyone should have the squirt gun. even brenfred was talked into opening his mouth and have like two shoots buthe did realized it was not sprite after he had tasted it. ahahahaha

after we had lunch... we decided to sing the national anthem. donald suggested that the pcv will sing the lupang hinirang and we will sing the star spangled banner. we wouldn't have problem singing it coz kuya bong is there who knew the lyrics and could sing it. while everyone was humming it, i heard emma sung the first 2 stanza. . but she too, was unsure if its the right one. so, we ended up singing our own lupang hinirang, and them their star spangled banner.

we singing our lupang hinirang, after our pcv friends sung their star spangled banner.

then went to the beach, had swimming.

and finally they were able to make a bonfire for the SMORE (i couldn't pronounce it well). everyone had one. . its a marshmallow, hershey, and honey graham cracker. the marshmallow should be heated on fire so it will melt, then, the hershey is put into the graham craker.. and after, the marshmallow is put in between two graham crakers... and whoala!!it was one of the best sweets i had :) now, i know what to buy if i go to manila *grin*

our july fourth ended at our very dark house... since it was brownout again.

its just a shame, coz we don't celebrate our independence day like the way they celebrate it. filipino's might be united if we do it too. .

I HAD FUN!!

I'M GLAD TO SAY I HAVE AMERICAN FRIENDS who teaches me how to appreciate special holidays like, independence day.
